10th World Congress of IAAH in adolescent health, June 11-13, 2013

Today young people between the ages of 10-24 make up 27% of the world’s population, yet over the last 50 years, global, social, economic, and political changes have adversely affected young people’s health, to the extent that adolescence and young adulthood are no longer the healthiest time of life.

In an effort to bridge the gap and bring about change in the perspectives of adolescent clinical and public health providers, the International Association for Adolescent Health (IAAH) is hosting their 10th World Congress in adolescent health, June 11-13, 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey. Titled, “Bridging Clinical and Public Health Perspectives to Promote Adolescent Health”, the World Congress will aim to reduce discrepancies in perspectives while addressing the need for change in policy and practice among adolescent health care providers, practitioners, and researchers.

The World Congress is hosting some of the world’s adolescent health experts: Vikram Patel, Ximena Luengo, Sarah-Jayne Blakemore, Sir Peter Gluckman, and IAAH’s President, Linda H. Bearinger. These experts will address areas of adolescent health where services are lacking and improvement is needed, while also highlighting strategic measures that have been implemented to improve adolescent health over the last decade.

Attendees will have multiple opportunities to connect and collaborate with fellow World Congress participants from a wide range of health disciplines and from many countries around the world. In addition, youth will be present and participating with attendees during this IAAH World Congress, because what better way to hear about adolescent health issues than from adolescents themselves? These youth will be instrumental in providing insight into their experiences attempting to receive care and the challenges they continue to face.

This inter-disciplinary event is designed to engage a wide range of professionals from clinicians, public health professionals, and youth workers to sociologists, psychologists, and teachers.

IAAH is currently accepting submissions of abstracts, symposiums, and workshops for the 2013 World Congress. Submissions for all of these materials are due on November 30th, 2012. The abstracts, symposiums, and workshops can be submitted at www.iaah2013.org.

The IAAH is a multidisciplinary, non-government organization with a broad focus on youth health. IAAH was established in 1987 and is committed to the principles of youth empowerment in all aspects of its affairs and supports the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989). The goal of IAAH is to become an organization that encourages and fosters national youth health organizations.
